La Belle Ville
Well, before the cat gets too far out of the bag, we'd like to let everyone know that we will be moving to Montreal - The Beautiful City. When all was said and done, McGill University turned out to be a near perfect fit for us both professionally and personally. The faculty in the Chemistry Department are all very friendly and family oriented and the Canadians as a whole are much more laid back than scientists in the States. My personality and values fit in perfectly with theirs and they must have gotten the same impression with me, because I was their unanimous first choice. (I'm sure the Thibodeaux family history I gave them at the beginning of my seminar helped out in this regard so, thanks Aunt Susan!!!) Gabby and I just spent the past week in Quebec and we left feeling that there is really no place better for us. I'll start my job at the "Harvard of Canada" sometime in August. Gabby will also be working at the university as a research assistant.
We'll be sure to keep everyone updated with our progress as we begin all of the paper work and bureaucracy that goes with moving to a different country. Don't worry guys, I will still celebrate the 4th of July, own plenty of firearms (a lot of people - including some of my future colleagues - hunt in Quebec), vote for people other than Donald Trump and watch LSU football on Saturdays. In the mean time, here are some pictures from our recent trip.
Jardin Botanique de Montreal (the botanical gardens):
The Pompeii exhibit at Musee des Beaux-Arts de Montreal:
L'Oratoire Saint-Joseph du Mont-Royal (St. Joseph's observatory)
View of downtown Montreal from the top of Mount Royal (McGill University is in the foreground)
A few pictures from the McGill campus.
Gabby with James McGill.
The Otto Mass chemistry building (I'm sure the english ivy will be stunning in the summer)
A statue of Queen Victoria in front of the music building (Don't worry, I can remain a permanent resident in perpetuity, so I will not be swearing allegiance to a monarch any time soon!)
No visit to Montreal would be complete without a visit to the place where Caitlin Jenner won her gold medal in the decathalon in 1976 (i.e. the Olympic Park).
The old city. Basilique Notre-Dame de Montreal.
A mall along the St. Lawrence River.
The St. Lawrence River in the old port.
A closer view of that mall.
There's plenty more to see that we just didn't have time to do, but this at least gives a small taste of all of the cool things to do in the city. I'm sure things will look much different in the summer and autumn and we'll be sure to update frequently over the next few years as we settle into our future. I'm also really looking forward to exploring the nearby Canadian wilderness, New England, and the Atlantic provinces of Canada - all of which are short drives from Montreal.
We'll be sure to keep everyone posted.

Tornado season is nigh
Before tornado season gets in full swing, I thought it would be timely to post these videos of the girls and I experiencing the wind chamber at the Corpus Christi museum.
Also, here are Bea and Maggie showing off their somersault skills.
